Abstract: Acetic acid, as an important basic organic chemical product, exerts a crucial influence on the development of downstreamchemical industries. The study on conducting market analysis and technical tracking research of acetic acid is conducive topromoting the high-quality development of the acetic acid industry. The domestic acetic acid market was analyzed in this paper. Both the annual output and annual consumption of acetic acid have exceeded 10 million tons. The production capacity of acetic acidis relatively concentrated in East China, North China and Central China. The total production capacity of 14 enterprises with anannual capacity of over 500,000 tons accounts for about 82.7% of the national total. The development history of overseas methanolcarbonylation technology to acetic acid was introduced, and the process characteristics of five methanol carbonylation processes foracetic acid synthesis were compared. The obvious advantages in improving catalyst efficiency and reducing utility consumption isconcentrated in Celanese AO Plus process and BP Cativa process. In addition, the active explorations such as new technologiesincluding catalyst optimization, low-water process, mass transfer enhancement and so on were sorted out by domestic enterprisesand research institutions in optimizing the methanol carbonylation process for acetic acid production, hoping to contribute to thegreen and low-carbon development of the acetic acid industry.
